PSOJ calls on gov’t to implement effective short-term crime strategies to neutralize gangs

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, PSOJ, is calling on the government to implement effective short-term crime strategies to neutralize gangs in Jamaica.

This comes on the heels of the organization’s call for the country’s political leaders to gain consensus on the short-term crime strategies needed to contain the violent crimes and murders being committed by gangs in Jamaica.

PSOJ President Keith Duncan says the government and the security forces must be proactive and lead the way in serving and protecting Jamaicans, as citizens from all walks of life are living in a state of fear and anxiety.

The PSOJ President while acknowledging that there are long term measures in place, stressed the need for more immediate strategies to deal with crime.

The PSOJ said it has been patient and constructive in supporting the country’s leaders, but the situation is becoming untenable and is taking a serious psychological and physical toll on citizens.

It said it is working with stakeholders and stands ready to engage the political directorate and law enforcement in possible short-term, feasible solutions that will consist of a multi-sector effort that is deemed acceptable by both parties.
