Prime Minister Andrew Holness says a way must be found to hold the Festival Song Competition

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says a way must be found to hold the Festival Song Competition.

Culture Minister Olivia Grange announced last week that the competition would be cancelled, as the entries were not up to standard.

Only 3 of 123 entries were deemed suitable.

Since the announcement, there has been an outcry from the public, with many upset that this long-standing aspect of the independence celebrations would be absent in the 60th year.

However, Mr Holness says he has told Ms Grange that a way must be found to host the competition.

The matter is being discussed by Cabinet today (June 13).

In commenting on the decline in the standard of the entries, Mr Holness said there is a different sense of how people feel about Jamaica.
