Police warn citizens to be careful when dealing with mentally ill persons

Head of the St. Andrew North police division, Superintendent Sherika Service is urging residents to be mindful when dealing with persons who are mentally ill.

The advisory follows the chopping death of a man and the wounding of two others, allegedly by a man of unsound mind, along Red Hills road in Kingston, yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Phillip Bennett, a construction worker, of Walkers Hill, Red Hills in St. Andrew.

The accused has been taken into police custody.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Superintendent Service said help is available for persons who are exhibiting mental issues.

She is urging people to also check on their loved ones who may be going through difficult times.
