Police increase presence in St. James, amid a surge in crime
The St. James police have increased their presence in sections of the parish, following several recent incidents, the latest of which resulted in the deaths of two men and the wounding of another in Mount Salem yesterday (May 8).
The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
Reports are that just before 1 pm, three men were standing along Crawford Street when persons drove up and opened gunfire before escaping.
All three men were hit, two of whom later succumbed.
Noting that they are following strong investigative leads into the incident, the St. James police say they are increasing their presence in the parish, amid a recent surge in crime.
According to reports, hours before yesterday’s double murder, one man was fatally shot and a weapon seized in Flanker.
2 firearms and 99 rounds of ammunition were also seized in the parish at the weekend.
The police have assured that they will continue to carry out operations aimed at reducing crime and nabbing criminals.
