A police constable is hospitalized in serious but stable condition, after he was attacked and chopped by a man in Hyatt’s Field, St. Ann this morning.

A man was also fatally shot during the incident.

He has been identified as 51 year old construction worker, Herbert Hines, of the Hyatt’s field.

Head of the St. Ann Police, Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell told IRIE FM News that at about 9 A.M., the Constable was among a team of officers who responded to a report of a domestic dispute, involving Hines.

Upon seeing the Police, Hines ran and the lawmen gave chase.

SSP Powell said Hines then attacked the Constable, using a machete to chop him in the head and other parts of his body.

He said in response, the Constable opened gunfire hitting Hines.

SSP Powell is urging citizens not to attack the police.
