PM Holness recommends several solutions to address Haiti’s food security needs at special UN meeting this morning

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has recommended the implementation of a humanitarian corridor, supported by international partners to unblock the supply chain and facilitate imports and distribution in Haiti.

This was among several solutions outlined by Mr Holness this morning (June 16) to address the urgent food security needs of the neighbouring CARICOM nation.

Mr Holness, who spoke at the special meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council noted that while the political crisis in Haiti remains an issue, serious attention must be made to address the immediate needs of the population.

He stressed the need for sustainable solutions to fix the country’s food problem.

Mr Holness also highlighted the need for support regarding home-grown food production and agro-processing in Haiti.

Noting that the Humanitarian Response Plan is severely underfunded, Mr Holness reiterated his call for the international community to help address the security and humanitarian situation in Haiti.
