Persons arrested during operation at religious compound in St James expected to be charged

Charges are expected to be laid against about 20 people, including women, who were taken into police custody, following a multi-agency operation at the Yahweh religious compound in St. James, this morning.

The persons are expected to be charged for several breaches of the Child Care and Protection Act.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force said this morning’s operation was part of continued efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals associated with the compound, particularly the children.

Today’s undertaking follows another operation on June 7.

At that time, over 20 children were removed from the compound and placed into the protective custody of the state.

The police said this was a necessary step to safeguard their welfare.

The JCF explained that since that time, it has been working closely with other government agencies and the families involved ensuring a thorough, fair, and considerate handling of this complex matter.
