People’s Arcade in Montego-Bay comes under scrutiny again following inspection

The Peoples Arcade in Montego-Bay St James has again come under scrutiny from the authorities, with an inspection on Thursday, unearthing several areas of concern, to include sanitation, squatting and criminal activity.

The St James police conducted an operation at the arcade, as part of the operation restore paradise initiative, this time focusing on arcade vendors and the condition in which food is prepared at the facility.

The police team was accompanied by representatives from the St James municipal corporation, the health ministry and the National Water Commission, on Thursday.

Head of Operations, Superintendent Eron Samuels said one major issue identified is the lack of water, which raises public health concerns.

Superintendent Samuels added that Thursdays operation at the arcade also resulted in the arrest of 2 persons.

He is calling for the arcade to be renovated, with proper amenities put in, as well as for the facility to be extended into a bus park.
