Over 20 people taken into custody following another operation at Yahweh compound

More than 20 people have been taken into police custody following a multi-agency operation at the Yahweh religious compound in St. James this morning.

The Jamaica Constabulary said the operation was part of continued efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals associated with the compound, particularly the children.

Today’s undertaking followed another operation on June 7.

At that time more than 20 children were removed from the compound and placed into the protective custody of the state.

The police said this was a necessary step to safeguard their welfare.

Since that time, the JCF explained that it has been working closely with other government agencies and the families involved to ensure a thorough, fair, and considerate handling of this complex matter.

The constabulary stated that it appreciates the cooperation received from the families and the wider community, which has been instrumental in enabling the police to carry out their duties effectively.

It added that the priority remains to secure the welfare of all individuals at the compound, uphold the law, and bring about  a peaceful resolution to this situation.

The JCF said it will continue to provide updates as the situation progresses.
