Opposition voices major concern with high-rise residential buildings in KMA

The opposition says it has major concerns about the development of high-rise residential accommodations in the Kingston Metropolitan Area, KMA.

Spokesman on housing and sustainable living, Dr. Floyd Morris says the concern is heightened by the recent 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria that has killed over 35,000 individuals.

He points out that the KMA sits on the Mona fault line and this makes the area extremely susceptible to earthquakes.

Senator Morris says the authorities must ensure that all the necessary measures are put in place to preserve life if an earthquake should strike the city of Kingston.

The opposition spokesman is also highlighting issues relating to privacy, with the development of the high rise buildings.

Meantime , Dr. Morris has raised questions about the construction of the high-rise buildings amidst the consistent water problems in the k-m-a.
