Opposition Leader donates 80 per cent of his retroactive salary increase to six charities

In keeping with his promise last month, Opposition Leader Mark Golding has donated more than 5 million dollars which is 80% of his retroactive salary increase to six charitable organizations.

Mr. Golding says he received the retroactive increase of $5,417,000 in his account last Friday.

He says donations have been allocated to Missionaries of the Poor, Mustard seed Communities, Food for the Poor, the Joy Town Community Development Foundation, the O-T Fairclough Trust Fund and the Jamaica Paralympic Association.

Mr. Golding explains that the charities were selected on the basis of their exceptional work to address critical needs within the Jamaican society.

Meanwhile, Mr. Golding is emphasizing the need to review and roll back the excessive salary increases granted to parliamentarians.

He reiterates the call for an independent body to thoroughly evaluate and reset the remuneration packages.
