Opp calls on Govt to act quickly to prevent future cyber attacks
The opposition is calling on the government to act quickly to prevent future cyber-attacks that could jeopardise the nation’s technological infrastructure.
The call comes in the wake of reports of a ransom-ware attack on the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ), which resulted in a $36 m loss.
In a statement today, spokesman on technology, Dr. Andre Haughton said this cyber attack is not an isolated incident, but part of a disturbing pattern affecting numerous government agencies over the past year.
He noted that the incidents are causing substantial financial losses and threatening national security.
Dr. Haughton suggested use of a comprehensive strategy to treat with these vulnerabilities.
