Oliver Samuels blasts PM for declaration to mourn the Queen for 12 days

World-renowned comedian Oliver Samuels has called out Prime Minister Andrew Holness following the government’s decision to mourn the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

In the 2-minute 48 seconds video captioned, “Stop it Mr. Priminster!”, Oliver Samuels said after 60 years of independence, he’s in total disagreement with the PM’s declaration to mourn the Queen for 12 days in Jamaica.

Mr. Samuels also urged the Prime Minister to be more like Barbados which became the world’s newest republic after officially removing Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state in 2021.

The United Kingdom has declared 10 days of mourning following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II who ruled for more than 70 years.

Black activist, international dub poet, and IRIE FM presenter Mutabaruka, in an interview with MSNBC, an American cable channel based in New York City on Sunday (Sept 11), says as a people, we will have to continue the struggle in the ongoing quest for reparations and an apology from anyone who sits on the throne.

On Friday, a day after the Queen’s passing, King Charles III ascended to the throne following the death of his mother who will be laid to rest on September 19.
