NWC projected to lose $2.1 billion in revenue due to the drought

The authorities are implementing several measures to ensure that citizens are supplied with water during the drought, with the National Water Commission (NWC) projected to spend millions of dollars on this.

Acknowledging that approximately 70 of the commission’s 450 water systems are affected by drought, Acting NWC President Kevin Kerr says the commission is working to mitigate further impact.

He notes that $400 million will be spent on water provision during the drought.

In addition, revenue loss of $2.1 billion is expected.

Meantime, Water Minister Matthew Samuda says the government was proactive in dealing with the drought issue.

He says meetings were held to finalize plans to address it.

They were speaking during a post cabinet press briefing on Wednesday morning.
