NPTAJ says steps must be taken to incorporate lessons about personal awareness in schools’ curricula
The National Parent Teacher Association of Jamaica, NPTAJ, says steps must be taken to incorporate lessons about personal awareness and security in schools’ curricula.
This following the murder of 9-year-old Nikita Noel, otherwise called “JoJo”, in Kew, Hanover on Wednesday.
Police theorize that the child was sexually assaulted and then killed.
Head of the Hanover Police, Superintendent Sharon Beeput told Irie FM News, that three persons of interest who were taken into custody yesterday in relation to the killing have been released.
However, another man is in custody in relation to the girl’s death.
Speaking with Irie FM News President of the NPTAJ, Stewart Jacobs said oftentimes adults take it for granted that children know about safety.
He stressed that the Education Ministry should find a way to sensitize children even the young ones on possible dangers and how to protect themselves.
He added that parents should also play a role.
Meantime, Mr. Jacobs said civil organizations such as the church should make an effort to teach children about personal security.
