Normal operations expected to resume at UTECH, following successful meeting with unions

Normal operations are expected to resume at the University of Technology (UTECH), following a successful meeting this afternoon (January 4) with the university’s management, the Finance Ministry and the unions representing staff.

The meeting, which addressed compensation related issues, came after academic staff, upset about delays in settling their compensation review proposal, took industrial action.

The lecturers withheld students’ grades for semester one.

The University of Technology Academic Staff Union (UTASU), which represents the lecturers, had reportedly been requesting talks with the government since May 2022, without success.

The request was granted today, and the meeting held at 1 PM.

UTASU President Dr. Clavery Allen gave IRIE FM an update on the meeting this afternoon.
