Non-patrons of Reggae Sumfest urged to stay away from event area as authorities aim to reduce traffic congestion
As the authorities enhance traffic management and crowd-control operations for today’s staging of Reggae Sumfest, citizens who do not need to be in the space are being urged to stay away.
The annual music festival, which will be held at Plantation Cove in Priory, St. Ann, is expected to cause an influx of vehicles in the area.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay, Michael Belnavis, acknowledged that traffic management has historically been one of the greatest challenges associated with events in the parish.
He said as a result, stakeholders have introduced several measures to reduce congestion, including a park-and-ride system.
He is appealing to motorists to cooperate with the measures throughout the event.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police, McArthur Sutherland, who has responsibility for Police Area 2, explained that lawmen will be deployed strategically throughout the venue, with officers assigned to entrances, parking areas and other key locations.
