New Firearms Act to be gazetted on Monday

Government Senator Charles Sinclair says the new Firearms Act is to be gazetted no later than tomorrow (October 31).

The new act which was passed in parliament in September will see persons being imprisoned for no less than 15 years, if convicted of firearm charges.

He gave the update while speaking in the Upper House on Friday (October 28).

He was responding to questions from Opposition Senator Lambert Brown about the implementation of the bill.

Senator Brown made the query while pointing to the use of illegal guns to commit crimes in the country.

Senator Brown also asked about the gun amnesty that was announced by the government as a means of ridding the island of illegal guns.
