NEPA to host virtual press conference at 2 PM to address recent effluent spill and fish kill in Rio Cobre in St Catherine

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is to host a virtual press conference this afternoon to address the recent effluent spill and fish kill, in the Rio Cobre in St Catherine.

The press conference is slated to begin at 2 PM.

The incident has angered residents in the area who depend on the river for water and fishing.

Several communities in St Catherine have also experienced disruptions in their water supply, as the state-owned Water Commission, shut down its Spanish Town treatment plant to prevent contaminated water from reaching customers.

Bauxite Company Windalco is reportedly being blamed for the incident.
