May 29 date set for lawsuit against Johnson-Smith in relation to commonwealth secretary general campaign

A May 29 date has been set for a lawsuit being brought against Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson-Smith in relation to donations towards her campaign to become commonwealth secretary general.

That’s according to attorney at law Wilfred Rattigan who has filed the lawsuit.

In her failed bid to unseat Secretary General of the Commonwealth Patricia Scotland in June 2022, the foreign affairs minister received financial support from members of the private sector.

However, Mr Rattigan is alleging that the minister and ministry did not comply with an administrative regulation in relation to the contributions.

He said he wants the court to make a public declaration .

Speaking on Irie Fm’s Africa Forum with host Khabu Maat Kheru on Sunday, Mr Rattigan said the official notice of the lawsuit will be served to Johnson-Smith’s attorney this week and a May 29 date has been set.
