Leon Bailey’s inclusion in Reggae Boyz Copa America squad described as ‘misleading’ by his agent Craig Butler

There is controversy surrounding the make up of Jamaica’s Copa America squad with the agent of Aston Villa star Leon Bailey disputing his inclusion.

Bailey has not suited up for Jamaica since last November against Canada after he was suspended by head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson for the Concacaf Nations League finals in March for breaking curfew.

The 26 year old who subsequently announced on the Let’s Be Honest podcast he would be taking a break from the national team, was on Wednesday among a group of six forwards named in the Reggae Boyz squad for the tournament that’s scheduled to run from June 20 to July 14 in the United States.

However, Bailey being named in the squad is being disputed by his agent Craig Butler who stated as much in a post on his Instagram account.

“Leon Bailey has stated that he is taking a break from the Jamaica national team for his mental health and to spend time with his family.” Butler said “His position has not changed.”

The post went on to state “We kindly ask that you respect his wishes at this time,” adding “Posts made on social media that are surfacing at this time is a misrepresentation of his position.”

“We wish the Reggae Boyz well in the Copa America competition and he, along with his management team will continue to support the Jamaica National Team at all levels…change must come…Respect and One Love for all.
