Latest Crime Statistics: Reduction in most major crimes when compared to last year

One thousand 282 people have been murdered across the island since the start of the year.

According to the latest Crime Data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force between January 1 and December 2, murders declined by 10.2%, when compared to the 1,428 murders committed in the similar period last year.

All divisions have recorded murders.

St. James leads the tally with 172 murders, followed by St. Andrew South with 112, Westmoreland with 110 and St. Catherine North with 108 murders.  

There were also declines in shootings, rape cases, robberies, and break-ins.

Shootings are down by 5% while rape cases declined by 17.4%.

At the same time, robberies fell from 859 last year to 720 for the similar period this year, while break-ins had declined by 13.3% up to December 2.

Overall, major crimes so far this year have decreased by 11.4%.
