JLP expresses readiness for Local Government Elections

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has expressed its readiness for the Local Government Elections, as its Central Executive confirmed candidates at the party’s Kingston headquarters on Sunday.

The local government elections are due by next month.

Speaking with Irie Fm News, JLP Chairman, Robert Montague says the party’s political machinery is prepared to campaign based on its achievements and its commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of Jamaicans.

Meanwhile, as the deadline for the Local Government Elections approaches, Leader of the Opposition People’s National Party Mark Golding, has reiterated that he will go to court if they are delayed again.

Last year, the government delayed calling the local elections for a third time, noting that it needed more time to ensure the country’s economic recovery is sustained.

The elections are due by the end of February this year.

Mr. Golding said any further delay of the elections is not consistent with a democratic system of local governance.
