JCC calls on the nation’s churches to do more to engage children in spiritually uplifting activities

A call is being made for the nation’s churches to do more to engage children in spiritually uplifting activities.

The call, which is being made by the Jamaica Council of Churches (JCC) comes amidst the increasing number of children who have lost their lives tragically.

Jamaica’s children are being gunned down, fatally stabbed, dying in motor vehicle crashes, drowned, and some have also committed suicide.

General Secretary of the JCC, Reverend Newton Dixon says though the government continues to work on strategies to keep children safe, the church must also seek to intervene.

Reverend Dixon explains that some tragedies result from spiritual influences, and should therefore be fought through spiritual strategies.

Reverend Dixon also notes that Jamaica should not wait until news emerges of children’s deaths to act.

He says more proactive measures must be taken by all sectors of society.
