JAS President says Portland and sections of St. Mary may have received sufficient rainfall to help combat the drought

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), Lenworth Fulton says Portland and sections of St. Mary may have received sufficient rainfall to combat the drought which has been impacting the country.

A trough last week brought showers to most parishes over several days.

Speaking to IRIE FM News,  Mr. Fulton said the moisture in the soil should be able to sustain farmers for the coming weeks.

He said though sections of Manchester and Clarendon are still experiencing dry spells, every parish received rainfall in recent days.

He is hoping that the rain will not lead to flooding, but that the island will experience steady periods of rainfall.
