JAPS calls on gov’t to implement a pension scheme for security officers
The Jamaica Association for Private Security, JAPS, is calling on the government to implement a pension scheme for security officers when they are officially observed as employees.
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke in acknowledging a ruling by the Supreme Court, announced recently that as of April 1, security officers are to be classified as employees and not contract workers.
In a letter to National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang, JAPS says a pension scheme is also needed.
Speaking with Irie FM News this morning, JAPS President Teddy Lee Gray said employees and employers would contribute 3 to 5 percent of gross pay towards the pension scheme.
