Jamaicans in the diaspora concerned about investing in the country, following reports of alleged SSL fraud
Some Jamaicans in the diaspora are expressing concern about investing in Jamaica, following reports of an alleged fraud at Stocks and Securities Limited, SSL.
A probe is underway at SSL, with reports that millions of dollars have been taken from the accounts of clients.
The issue was raised with some Jamaicans in Florida, who were guests on Irie FM’s Africa Forum yesterday (January 29), with Kabu Ma’at Kheru.
Commissioner Joy Smith of the city of West Park shared that some Jamaicans are thinking of withdrawing sums invested locally.
Commissioner Alexandra Davis of Miramar also said she needed more information but was not thinking about investing at this time.
The government has been urging persons not to be hesitant in depositing their funds in the financial sector, stating that the sector remains strong.
