Jamaica will not be negatively impacted by JetBlue Airways’ move to cut unprofitable routes

Jamaica will not be negatively impacted by JetBlue Airways’ move to cut unprofitable routes.

The company is trying to cut costs amid its failed Spirit Airlines merger and American Airlines partnership due to antitrust laws and the grounding of some Airbus jets.

More than 20 routes are expected to be impacted effective June 13, but Senior Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seiveright says none of them terminate in Jamaica.

He notes that Jamaica welcomed one million visitors and earned one billion in foreign exchange in the first two months of the year.

Mr Seiveright says the numbers highlight the impressive growth trajectory of the country’s tourism sector.

JetBlue is one of the largest carriers of passengers between Jamaica and the United States with multiple daily nonstop flights to the U-S cities of New York, Newark, Boston, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.
