Jamaica compliant in 37 out of 40 Financial Action Task Force Recommendations

Jamaica is now compliant in 37 of the 40 Financial Action Task Force (FAF-T) Recommendations, aimed at combatting money laundering.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke made the revelation in Parliament this afternoon.

He noted that this is a significant achievement as an evaluation conducted in 2015, revealed that Jamaica was compliant in only 17 of the 40 Recommendations.

Dr. Clarke said among other things, this upgrade was driven by lawyers being brought under the Anti-money Laundering and Counter-terrorism Financing framework.

Dr. Clarke also noted that Jamaica is among Caribbean countries leading in FAF-T Recommendation compliance, which means, Jamaica will be better able to address the issue of money laundering and by extension, organized crime.
