Health Ministry orders probe into incident involving patient who died at Falmouth Hospital

A high-level probe is to be conducted into an incident involving a patient who was admitted to the Falmouth Hospital in Trelawny, and who subsequently died.

Videos circulating on social media, show a relative of the deceased woman who had suffered a stroke, detailing the alleged poor treatment she received at the hospital, as well as how a lack of medical equipment and adequate ambulances, made the situation worse.

In a statement last evening, Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, said he ordered a probe into the incident.

He said the investigation which follows complaints on social media from family members will be conducted through the office of the Chief Medical Officer in conjunction with the Western Regional Health Authority.

Expressing hope that the investigation will be concluded swiftly, Dr. Tufton said counseling is being offered to the deceased’s relatives.

In the meantime, persons are reminded of the Ministry’s Complaints Management System, which allows users of public healthcare facilities to report any concerns.

The Complaints Management System is accessible at the level of each Public Healthcare Facility or alternately online at the Ministry’s website, www.moh.gov.jm.
