Grange saddened by death of Charles Town Maroons leader
Leader of the Charles Town Maroons in Portland, Colonel Marcia Douglas, has died.
Colonel Douglas died suddenly yesterday while on her way to the Seville Heritage expo held in St. Ann, in celebration of heritage week.
In making the announcement Culture Minister Olivia Grange expressed sadness at the Colonel’s passing.
She described the leader as a guiding force within the maroon community, who dedicated her life to safeguarding and promoting the rich heritage and traditions of the maroons.
Ms. Grange has extended condolences to Colonel Douglas’ family and has committed to advancing initiatives which she started, to celebrate and preserve Jamaica’s rich maroon heritage.
