Gov’t to outline plans to acquire more land to facilitate large housing projects

The government will soon outline how it plans to go about acquiring more land to facilitate large housing development projects, with up to 10 thousand units.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who has responsibility for the Housing portfolio, said details of the plan will be explained when he makes his contribution to the budget debate, which starts next week.

Speaking today at a National Housing Trust groundbreaking ceremony in Mount Nelson, Manchester, Holness acknowledged the concern of many Jamaicans who are unable to afford a home.

Holness said the intention is to have developers scale up their capacity for large construction projects.

He said the government will assist developers with land, among other things.
