The government says no decision has been made to ban corporal punishment in homes.

The clarification comes amid public discussions on the matter.

These stem from recent pronouncements by Justice Minister Delroy Chuck indicating that the government is seeking to introduce laws to prevent corporal punishment in homes.

In a statement today, Minister of Education and Youth, Fayval Williams said while there is a ban on corporal punishment in schools and other spaces, there is none relating to homes.

She reaffirmed  the government’s commitment to eliminating violence, particularly against children.
