Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith has urged the international community to renew its support for the efforts to restore peace in Haiti.
Delivering Jamaica’s National Policy Statement during the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Mrs. Johnson Smith noted that Haiti continues to face one of the most challenging periods in its history.
She highlighted that rampant gangs are causing chronic instability and violence and that millions of Haitians are facing hunger and dislocation.
Mrs. Johnson Smith emphasized that while progress has already been made in addressing these issues, Haiti needs the unwavering support of the international community to tackle the humanitarian crisis.
She emphasized that it is critical to preserve and advance the gains made through increased funding and resources.
