Education Ministry to meet with Vere Technical High School staff, following incident involving a teacher and parent yesterday
The Education Ministry is to meet with teachers of Vere Technical High School and representatives from the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA), following an incident at the Clarendon-based institution, yesterday.
The incident reportedly involved a teacher and a student’s parent.
In a statement today, Education Minister Fayval Williams condemned the attack on the teacher.
In expressing sadness at the incident, Mrs. Williams said her ministry remains fully committed to supporting the affected teacher and improving school security.
She said for months, the ministry has been implementing initiatives and urging parents, guardians and community members to help in curbing school violence.
The minister said it is therefore deeply disheartening to see a parent involved in an act of violence.
She said the matter will be discussed at a meeting.
The ministry says it continues to encourage collaboration among parents, teachers, students, and community members to combat school violence.
