Education Ministry says due process was followed in suspension of St. George’s College student over recording of viral video

The Education Ministry says due process was followed in the case of the fourth form student who was suspended from the St. George’s College, after he posted a video to social media of a broken fan at the institution.

After the video went viral online, there was criticism over the school’s decision to suspend the student.

Speaking at the Post-Cabinet Press Briefing this morning, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Kasan Troupe said the student was suspended as he broke the rules of the school.

Although the student was initially suspended for seven days, Dr. Troupe clarified that the student in fact, only served one day of suspension.

The student returned to the institution on Monday, and Dr. Troupe said he will now undergo standard rehabilitation.
