Education Minister rejects claims that relationship between Ministry and JTA Head has deteriorated

Education Minister, Fayval Williams has rejected claims that the relationship between her Ministry and the President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA), La Sonja Harrison has deteriorated.

Mrs Harrison has been advocating for public school teachers who have cited several anomalies in their pay, due to the Government’s restructuring exercise.

Some of the claims made by the teachers have been denied by the Government.

When questioned by reporters at Jamaica House this morning (May 31) on the relationship between the JTA Head and the Education Ministry, Mrs. Williams said she prides herself on being cordial and professional with the Association.

She noted, however, that despite accepting that the JTA has to fight for the rights of its members, her Ministry will not be silenced, while mischief runs rampant in the education sector.
