E-POC says Jamaica’s Fiscal Commissioner should begin full duties by December this year
Chairman of the Economic Programme Oversight Committee (E-POC) Keith Duncan said Jamaica’s Fiscal Commissioner should begin full duties by December this year.
On March 3, Courtney Williams was sworn in as the country’s first Fiscal Commissioner, whose role is to be the guardian and interpreter of Jamaica’s fiscal rules.
The Fiscal Commissioner heads the Independent Fiscal Commission.
Mr Williams’ duties, in essence, are to replace those of E-POC.
However, despite Mr Williams’ assumption of the post, E-POC has continued to operate in an oversight capacity.
Commenting on the situation at an E-POC press briefing yesterday (July 13), Mr Duncan said a complete transition of duties from E-POC to the Independent Fiscal Commission should occur later this year.
