Drought Management Committee to meet next week to assess impacts of measures established to address drought

The Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation’s Drought Management Committee will convene next week to assess the impacts of the measures established to address the country’s meteorological drought.

Amidst the drought and water shortage, Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced the allocation of millions of funds to improve water availability in several areas of the country.

It is projected that the meteorological drought affecting the country will end next month.

Speaking at a Post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House this morning (April 26), Water Minister Matthew Samuda said the Drought Management Committee will meet next week to determine the country’s way forward during the drought period.

He said if assessments of the current mitigation strategies reveal the need for stronger measures, those will be recommended.
