DPP awaiting notice from Court of Appeal in respect of the hearing which will decide if Vybz Kartel & his co-appellants will be retried

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn, says her office is awaiting a notice from the Court of Appeal in respect of the hearing date, concerning the case for entertainer Vybz Kartel and his three co-appellants.

Last Thursday, Kartel, Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St. John, had their murder convictions overturned by the privy council, on the ground of juror misconduct.

They had been serving sentences for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

The United Kingdom-based council also ruled that Jamaica’s Court of Appeal should determine whether or not the matter should be sent for retrial.

Ms. Llewellyn told IRIE FM News, that once the appellate court gives notice of a hearing, her team will begin preparing its submissions.

Following the Privy Council’s ruling, there has been some criticism of the DPP’s office as it regards the handling of the murder case.

In response, the DPP noted that her office consists of career prosecutors, who despite great provocation, will not act with emotion.
