Correctional officers assured that steps have been taken to address outstanding issues, although formal wage agreement to be signed with Government this week

Correctional officers are being assured that steps have been taken to address outstanding issues, although a formal wage agreement is to be signed with the Government this week.

Last week, the unions indicated that they accepted the Finance Ministry’s wage offer under the restructured compensation system.

It followed protracted negotiations and industrial action by correctional officers at the Horizon Remand Centre in Kingston.

Chairman of the Jamaica Federation of Corrections, Arlington Turner says due to several outstanding matters, unions decided to accept the wage offer only after timelines were finalized to have them addressed.

Noting that correctional officers have been trying to resolve the issue for over two years, Mr. Turner assured that all moves made by the unions are in the best interest of workers.
