Citizens warned not to engage in the sale or consumption of lobster, during the closed season from April 1 to June 30

Citizens are being warned that anyone found to be involved in the fishing, sale or consumption of lobster during the closed season, will be prosecuted.

The closed season is April 1 to June 30.

Offenders face a maximum fine of 3 million dollars or a sentence of 2 years imprisonment.

The warning was issued by Fisheries Minister Floyd Green during a press briefing yesterday.

Mr. Green stressed that the closed lobster season is part of efforts to protect the crustacean during the reproductive period.

The harvesting and consumption of lobster during this season is strictly prohibited.

Mr. Green appealed for citizens to be compliant.

He also suggested that during the closed lobster season, persons can opt to consume conch instead, as the conch season is still open.
