Culture and Sports Minister Olivia Grange says this year's Labour Day will focus on the restoration of sports, early childhood and community facilities. The focus was selected in the context of Hurricane Melissa which affected Jamaica last October.

The Granville Peace, Justice and Resource Development Foundation says it is appalled by the fatal shooting of a woman by the police in Granville Square, St. James yesterday. The woman has been identified as 45-year-old Lotoya Bulgin also known as "Buju" of Gunns Drive, Granville.

Opposition Spokesperson on National Security, Fitz Jackson, says that while he acknowledges the swift action of the Police High Command to interdict the officer involved in yesterday's fatal shooting in Granville, St. James, immediate suspensions are no longer enough. The incident, which resulted in the death of a woman, occurred in the afternoon and was captured on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera. The footage has gone viral on social media.

A twenty-year-old man is to face the court soon to answer to charges in relation to a physical dispute between him and a woman in Georges Plain, Westmoreland, on Sunday, May 10.He is Rayon Powell of Jane Marks Road, Georges Plain.

The Transport and Finance Ministers are to meet with public transport operators today as the operators grow increasingly impatient over the delays in implementing the second phase of the fare increase. The Government approved a 35% fare increase in October 2023 implementing a 19% hike at that time.
