The Education Ministry says it is in contact with the leadership of Munro College in St. Elizabeth to provide support to staff and students following the death of 16-year-old Kamal Reynolds.
The teen reportedly drowned at a beach in Yallahs, St. Thomas on Wednesday.
His body was recovered the following day.
Reynolds was attending the school’s football camp in St. Thomas when the tragedy occurred.
The Ministry has requested a report from Munro College on the circumstances leading up to and after the incident.
Portfolio Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon said she is heart broken at reports of Reynolds death.
She sympathized with the teen’s parents, adding that the Ministry stands with them.
Dr. Morris Dixon said the Ministry will ensure that the necessary counselling and psychological support is made available to the Munro College school community, as it processes this traumatic event.
Both the marine and St. Thomas police are investigating the incident.
