Brianna Lyston named Athlete of the week
World Junior 200 meters champion Brianna Lyston of Louisiana State University (LSU) was yesterday named Athlete of the week by the US Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association.
The award came after the former hydel stand out – won the women’s 60 meters at the razorback invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas last weekend, where she clocked 7.07 seconds for the second-fastest season debut in collegiate history.
The time is only bettered by the 2023 Bowerman winner Julien Alfred’s 7.02 seconds clocking set one year ago and the 19-year-old Jamaican also tied the LSU record set by Aleia Hobbs.
It was the fastest run in the us so far this year, number three in the world and fourth best ever in NCAA. history.
With the victory the former hydel high standout also smashed her previous best of 7.26 seconds set at the same track last year, which puts her 11th best all time for a Jamaican woman over the distance.
