Lower House approves increase in salary for members of the Judiciary

The Lower House yesterday approved an increase in the remuneration of Judges and other members of the Judiciary.

 

The matter will next go before parliament’s Regulations Committee.

 

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke explained that the adjustment in salaries for the Judiciary is in keeping with the legal stipulation for a 3-year-review cycle.

 

He said the Independent Commission of the Judiciary set up by the Justice Ministry, last year, proposed increases and other changes for fiscal years 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024.

 

Citing challenges due to the impact of the Covid pandemic on revenues Dr. Clarke said the ministry made a counter proposal, of a 6 percent increase, retroactively for 2021/2022.

 

 

 

Dr. Clarke said the adjustments will cost over one point 8 billion dollars.
