The driver who mowed down a firefighter in Ocho Rios, St. Ann 2 years ago, is to be sentenced on July 1. 

Hortliff Thomas pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared in the St. Ann Circuit Court last week. 

The Crown’s case is that about 2.40 p.m on November 30, 2022, firemen were responding to a fire near the Reynolds Cruise Ship Pier.

Thomas reportedly overtook a line of traffic and lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the back of the parked fire truck killing 25-year-old firefighter Larenzo Douse.

Thomas, who suffered extensive injuries from the crash, was later arrested and charged with manslaughter.

He pleaded guilty to the lesser offense of causing death by dangerous driving.
