Jamaicans urged to demonstrate care for the disabled, the elderly and the vulnerable, this labour day

Culture Minister Olivia Grange is urging Jamaicans to join her ministry in demonstrating care for the disabled the elderly and the vulnerable this labour day.

Labour day is observed annually on May 23.

This year, it’s being held under the theme: ‘Ramp up di access … show that you care’.

Ms. Grange said this year’s theme captures the significance of inclusivity, emphasizing the importance of citizens having equal access to the nation’s resources.

She said this year’s national project will increase access to Jamaica’s oldest cultural institution the Institute of Jamaica through the construction of a ramp, and preparations for the installation of an elevator.

This will be led by the Prime Minister, Andrew Holness.

She encouraged Jamaicans to register their projects on either the JIS website or through her ministry’s website.

Meantime, Executive Director of the Institute of Jamaica, Leslie Harrow expressed appreciation for the project.

He noted that it will enhance accessibility at the facility.

They were speaking at the launch of workers’ week and labour day.
