Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls create history with win over New Zealand at Netball World Cup

Jamaica’s sunshine girls created history this morning with  their first ever victory over New Zealand at the netball World Cup.

The fourth ranked Jamaicans who had already booked their  place  in  the  semi final trounced the defending champions 59-48 at  the Cape Town  Convention Centre the  Sunshine  Girls  opened  up  with   a 15-11 first quarter lead  and   then eeked out a 26-23 halftime lead despite losing the second quarter 12-11.

New Zealand edged a fiery third quarter 16-15, closing the margin to just two goals heading into the final quarter.

The sunshine girls then ran riot in the fourth quarter – winning 18-9 – for a statement 11-goal victory despite leading by only two heading into the final quarter.

Captain  Jhaniele  Fowler  led  the  scoring  for  Jamaica  with  49,  while  Shanice  Beckford  scored  9  and  Romelda  Aiken-George 1.

Meanwhile  the  semi-final  pairings  were  confirmed  with  the  sunshine  girls  to  face  Australia,  while  New  Zealand  will  take  on  England.
