Para athletes to benefit from Americas & Caribbean programme (GAPS), next week in Kingston

Para athletes from Barbados, Grenada, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, hosts Jamaica and the Faulkland islands are set to benefit from the inagural (gather, adjust, prepare, sustain) Americas & Caribbean programme (GAPS), next week in Kingston.

The historic occasion is a collaboration between the Jamaica Paralympic Association, the University of the West Indies and the Commonwealth Games Federation.

This camp to be held between April 16 and 22 at the UWI Campus, will seek to address some of the unique challenges faced by Para-sport athletes from the Americas and Caribbean region through a partnership programme that: educates coaches, identifies talent, …..undertakes skill development camps, provides international internships and enables research opportunities.

The event was launched yesterday with President of the Commonwealth Games federation Dr Chris Jenkins among those making presentations along with President of the Jamaica Paralympic Association Christopher Samuda and Dean of the Faculty of Sport at UWI Dr Akshai Mansingh.
